It is often recommended that you work with a certified electrician whenever you are working around any type of electrical components, however, if you are daring, there are a couple of chores that some do-it-yourselfers tackle. The following is what is involved with installing most light fixtures so consider this prior to you decide to do-it-yourself.
No two lighting fixtures are precisely the same so there are no generic steps to install them. Complete diagrams and specific instructions accompany most brand-new lighting fixtures. Be sure you file them where you will be able to find them when needed.
If you are adding a fixture as opposed to replacing one, you might want to run a new circuit. You can tap into the existing power from a circuit that already exists but beware not to overload the circuit causing the breaker to trip.
One of the big headaches when installing a light fixture is to get all the components installed right. While framing the fixture in place, it is a good idea to nail up an extra cross brace.
It may be necessary to pull out some existing drywall if you are planning to retro-fit and include more bracing for the fixture. Or you will need to settle for placing the fixture on an existing ceiling joist or stud.
When constructing a new home, any recessed lighting is installed after the framing is complete and before drywall. If you want to install recessed lighting after the house has been built, you might want to retro-fit recessed illuminate to enhance certain details in the room.
If you are installing recessed lighting in an existing residence you will need to have a mounting bracket that will fit around the hole created when mounting the lighting fixture.

Mark the location of the new fixture. You should run the incoming power directly to the light fixture then run the cable down to the switch to make a loop.
To install the light, you will take the frame brackets up into the opening. Position the component so it is flush with the bottom of the wood framing. Secure the frame to the joists by pounding in the metal teeth on its supporting limbs. Make sure that insulation is at least 3″ far from recessed lights, unless illuminate is specifically labeled as “I.C.”( Insulated Ceiling) to prevent fire or overheating which could lead to a fire.
Small mounting clips should have been included with the fixture which will hold the recessed light in place.
Make sure that you do any necessary painting before you add the reflector shield and the bulbs. The shield will click into place.
Ceiling Fan Installation
How you install a ceiling fan depends upon the type of fan you select. You should follow the producer's instructions that are included with the ceiling fan.
Nearly all ceiling fans require a unique ceiling fan-rated junction box fastened to a ceiling joist.
If you are constructing a new residence, you need to select the location of the fan which will usually be near the center of the room. If this location is not near a cross joist, you will need to add a brace between the ceiling joists. Then you will put up a junction box so that it is flush with the ceiling and run the power to the ceiling fan leaving about a foot of cable for connections.
At this stage you can hang the drywall or whatever wall covering you plan to utilize. Cut around the outside rims of the box taking care not to cut the electrical cable then finish repairing the drywall.
Rest the fan on a ladder and fasten the installing bracket to the junction box. Connect the cable and follower wires together, attaching each pair with a wire connector.
Lift the fan into place and fasten it to the mounting bracket ensure the ornamental covering is on then slip the decorative covering into location.
Track Lighting
You can include versatility and beauty to a space's design strategy by including track lighting. It is fairly easy to install a new fixture on an existing ceiling. You will need to install a brand-new junction box and run changed strength to package on a brand-new cable if you are not supplanting an existing light fixture.
Initially, orient the track so the bulbs deal with the things you wish to emphasize at about a 30 degree angle.
